Permits and Temporary Fencing in the Fraser Valley
One of the most common questions we get: "Do I need a permit to put up temporary fencing?" The short answer for most projects is no — but it's worth understanding the exceptions.
The general rule
For most private job sites, permits are generally not required for temporary fencing or portable toilet rentals. If the equipment sits entirely on the property where the work is happening, you're usually clear.
When you might need one
Requirements vary by municipality and project type. You may need approval when:
- Fencing encroaches onto a sidewalk, lane, or public right-of-way
- The project involves road work or traffic control in a municipal corridor
- A development permit for the project already specifies site-control conditions
When in doubt, a quick call to your local municipality clears it up.
Fraser Valley specifics
We work across the Fraser Valley every week — from Sardis and Vedder Crossing in Chilliwack to West Abbotsford and the Highway 1 logistics corridor in Abbotsford. Agricultural and development land here often has plenty of room to keep fencing on-site, permit-free.
We make compliance easy
Our equipment meets WorkSafeBC and municipal safety expectations, and our team can advise on placement so you stay onside.
